Earles can only be bound in the wilderness, at any time of day. Presidents can only be bound in the day time, at any hour. Knights may be bound from midnight to sunrise. Prelates may be bound any time of the day. Dukes may be evoked only in the daytime, from sunrise to noon. The marquizes can be evoked from 9 pm to sunrise. The kings can be evoked from 5 pm to sunset. So if we consider them one Solomonic system of goetia/theurgia, we should obey the Greater Keys instructions. And technically, the spirits can be evoked during specific times of the daytime, but the Greater Key instructs specifically only to evoke during nighttime. The ritual must only be undertaken on the 2-14 even days of the moon. Now we must concern ourselves with the times and planets of the spirits. These great terrible kings are never to be summoned unless it is a very special occasion and unless the exorcist is very skilled and advanced. Paimon requires an offering and to face northwest during the ceremony.īeleth requires the exorcist to carry a hazel wand during the ritual, which must take place facing the southeast.Īmaymon, Corson, Ziminiar, and Gaap are rulers of the East, West, North, and South respectively. They demand certain conditions of their evocation or demand a certain direction to face during communion. But some spirits have special demands, usually kings. Most spirits follow a simple formula, you use the sigil, eastward direction, and the spirit's time/planet to summon it. This story is also mentioned and elaborated on the the Greater Key.
The lake dried up and Babylonion explorers opened up the vessel, releasing all of the spirits into the world. The mythological story presented in the book is that Solomon bound up the spirits in a vessel of brass, which because of its great unfathomable power was sealed and buried in the lake of Babylon. The goetic spirits are described as demons, but in reality goetia precedes Christian theology, dating back to Greek and Egyptian paganism. In the future I would like to cover other forms of goetia and explain more about its history and definition, but that will be far off. This guide will go a lot more in depth than the other guides and will also be updated with pictures and a recent goetia experience.
This post will outline the Ars Goetia, and since I have already covered Ars Notoria, the other three books will be outlined soon when I am comfortable enough with the systems to authoritatively write an accurate guide. I propose a different style: goetia that follows the grimoire and maintains its roots while still being at least somewhat possible and modernized for the current day.
On the other side, there are no good explanations on how to actually practice goetia in the traditional sense, because obviously some of the practices are simply unrealistic for us to perform. I'm not one to tell people how to practice a specific occult system, but it seems most people practicing "goetia" stray so far from the grimoire that it is unrecognizable as ceremonial magic and more resembles chaos magic, something goetia is not.
